Part of living simply, for me, has included cutting out things that weren’t working for me, including foods that weren’t working for me. Sugary sweets (that I LOVE) that were only making me sluggish, moody and adding bulk to my body. I have NEVER been able to stick to a diet for ANY amount of time (not even 1 day people!), so when I realized that my body is 70% diet and only 30% gym I knew I was in trouble. I had an AWEFUL sugar addiction, I literally felt like I COULDN’T stop eating sweets, or say no if they were in the house. I hated it.
Finally I decided to try the 21 Day Fix, which is a workout program that includes an eating plan, and it ACTUALLY seemed simple and doable…but still I doubted I could stick to it. Lo and behold, I am in my 9th week of eating clean and feeling incredibly energetic, I’ve slimmed down by 20lbs and it’s something I think I can maintain for LIFE.
Some people have been intimidated by all the different containers, but by keeping it simple, I’ve experienced amazing results.
Here’s what I eat in a day:
I start my day with a protein, carb and fruit. Giving myself so much food in the mornings makes a huge difference in my cravings and energy level throughout the day.
I‘m usually not super hungry just two hours later at 10am, but if I skip this snack, then I’m starving at 12pm and can’t stop eating. Forcing myself to eat every 2 hours has been revolutionary in my health. I like to have a fruit, even though fruits are high on the glycemic index – meaning they can spike your blood sugar – if I couple the fruit with some protein, like some almond butter, it keeps me full until lunch.
Lunch for me is always a fresh, flavorful salad. I just love it. This one has romaine, grape tomatoes, broccoli, carrots, some shredded rotisserie chicken and feta cheese. Yum!
Shakeology has also been a game changer for me. It made it possible to cut most sugar and dairy from my diet, without me even trying – and if you know me, you know that’s CRA-ZY. I am obsessed with the chocolate/banana/almond butter combo.
My 5pm snack isn’t something I’m always hungry for either, but I’m always glad I have it, because again, it keeps me from being a ravenous wolf at dinner. Today’s snack was carrot sticks with hummus.
I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I keep all my meals and snacks SUPER simple…seriously…ANYONE can do this. A whole wheat sandwich thin, some more romaine with a little more feta and a rotisserie chicken breast. Preparing these meals and snacks was effortless, and pretty inexpensive.
Don’t make being healthy more complicated than it has to be!
